Private messaging questions

Message Without Sharing Your Phone Number

Answers about private dating messages, temporary contact links, QR codes, disposable contact forms, expiry, and protecting your real contact details.

How can someone message me without my phone number?

Create a Contactable token and share the public link or QR code. They can send a message through the token without seeing your phone number, email address, WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, or other personal contact details.

Can I use this for dating without giving out my number?

Yes. Contactable is useful when you want someone to reach you but you are not ready to share your real number. You can accept or decline the first request, keep the chat temporary, and destroy it whenever you want.

Can I receive a message without revealing my email address?

Yes. The public page only shows the intent and message form. Your email address is not displayed and the core product does not require accounts for basic use.

Can I send someone a QR code instead of my contact details?

Yes. Each token gives you a QR code that opens the private message request page. It works well for events, dating, selling items, collecting something, lost property, or letting someone contact you once.

What happens after someone sends the first message?

You see the request on your private owner page. You can accept it to open a temporary chat, decline it, or destroy the chat completely.

Can I delete the chat if I change my mind?

Yes. The owner can use Destroy Chat from the manage page. The requester can also destroy the temporary thread from their side.

Does the contact link expire?

Yes. You choose a lifetime when creating the token. When it expires, the token and messages are removed by the cleanup process.

Can someone guess my token and read messages?

Public tokens use three random short words and lookups are rate-limited. The owner manage link is much longer and private. Message access is tied to the token flow and the active browser session.

Are private messages encrypted?

Message bodies are encrypted before being stored in the database, but Contactable is not end-to-end encrypted. The server application decrypts messages to show them to the correct owner or requester page.

Who is Contactable for?

It is for anyone who wants short-term contact without giving away permanent details: dating, marketplace sellers, event organisers, freelancers, drivers, delivery meetups, community groups, and people handling lost property.
